Report on EBFM Toolbox Prototype and final version

Underpinning the SEAwise project is the ambition to support implementation of EBFM across Europe’s fisheries. To help meet this aim, two practical tools have been developed as part of the project – the SEAwise Toolbox and EBFM Tool. The two tools differ in the type of complex information displayed: the SEAwise Toolbox presents technical details of social and ecological aspects individually and the EBFM Tool presents an overview of all impacts in the social and ecological system at one glance.

While both tools are distinct and cater to different audiences, both are underpinned by SEAwise science, and have been designed to act as complements to the other in providing accessible, useful information in support of operationalising EBFM in Europe. Their contents reflect scoping with the fishing industry, policymakers, scientists, managers, and NGOs over the lifetime of the project, and hence these tools are aimed at meeting the needs and priorities of stakeholders in terms of the knowledge needed for implementation of EBFM in their fisheries.

This report contains details of both the EBFM Toolbox and EBFM Tool and provides an overview of each, signposting also avenues for future use and development.
